CANCELLED – Convention 2021: Thriving Amid Chaos

Unfortunately, due to low registration numbers, we will be cancelling Convention 2021 next week. We understand that there are still many competing focuses for your attention, many of our member theatres are still closed due to the pandemic, and frankly, so many of us are just plain “Zoomed out”. We hope to be able to gather in person a year from now for Convention 2022. Though so much has changed in just the last year, a hope of a waning pandemic lies on the horizon and (hopefully) our new normal lies just beyond that.

If you were registered for Convention 2021 and would like to keep your registration donation as a donation to the Iowa Theatre Relief Fund, the Des Moines Playhouse has graciously offered to provide a link to their on-demand production that weekend. If you would like a refund, please contact our treasurer, Gerard via email at gerard50208@gmail.com.

Please note, our Annual Meeting of the Membership of the Association will still be held via Zoom at the previously scheduled time of 2:15pm on Saturday, March 27th. This meeting is our annual meeting where we share the State of the Association, our financial information, and elect board members to fill those terms expiring this year. As a reminder, in order to be eligible to vote or bring business to the floor you must be an individual member of the Association or a duly authorized representative of a member theatre. If you need to renew your individual membership, doing so is quick, easy, and affordable. You can do so at our website – iowatheatres.org/membership

As we traverse the remainder of the pandemic and things slowly begin to reopen, I look forward to opportunities to travel to your member theatres, meet you, and share in the magic of the stage. I, like so many of you, have missed the stories from the stage and, more importantly, interacting with all of the wonderful and interesting theatre people that help to create Iowa’s diverse and exciting landscape of community theatre. Theatre will return and the magic will happen again. Just a bit longer to wait.

Though we’ll miss seeing you virtually for Convention 2021, we look forward to seeing you all in person for Convention 2022. Stay safe, stay well.

Break a leg,

Jason Paull

2021 Memberships

Recognizing the challenges faced by the artistic community due to the novel coronavirus and its impact on our theatres, the ICTA Board of Directors have authorized new membership prices for individuals and theatres:

  • All theatres that held membership in 2020 have been automatically renewed for the 2021 program year, with membership expiring December 31st, 2021. If your theatre did not hold membership in 2020 and would like to join for 2021, please contact our treasurer, Gerard, by emailing him here.
  • Individual Memberships are “Pay what you are able” for 2021. To renew your individual membership for 2021, visit our Membership page, select the Individual Member option, and enter a dollar amount you are able to afford.
  • Business Memberships remain at the $100 level, but if your theatre-related business would like to renew or join and faces hardship, please contact our treasurer to discuss options.

2021 Awards of Excellence

Recognizing the need for safety of our board members, our member theatres, and their patrons, the ICTA Board of Directors has suspended the Awards of Excellence for 2021. We understand that each theatre faces different challenges based on their size, patronage, budget, and facility – which means some theatres may be able to return to production sooner than others. In order to remain equitable to all member theatres and maintain a level field of competition, the Awards of Excellence will be on hold for all of 2021 – which means no submissions for review will be accepted and no reviews will be performed. With the hopeful news of successful vaccines, we hope to return fully to the Awards of Excellence in 2022.
