Workshops
Costuming for the Community Theatre
Christine Duncan, Lincoln, NE
Christine is the Costume Manager at the University of Nebraska’s Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film in Lincoln. Her workshop will cover measurements, fitting, alterations, care and storage, transforming wardrobe basics into stage costumes, wigs and more.
Directing
Kathy Pingel, Florida
Learn tips and techniques for outstanding directing . Kathy has taught workshops in directing, improve, and senior theatre; trained adjudicators and education directors for AACT, and has adjudicated at state, regional, national and international levels. Kathy was the Director of Education and Youth Programming at the Des Moines Community Playhouse for 10 years, and served as Artistic Director of the Kate Goldman Children’s Theatre. She holds a BA in Theatre from Eastern Michigan University and MA degrees in Performance Studies and Teaching from Northwestern University. In retirement, Kathy freelances as a play editor, director and teacher in Florida.
Let There Be (Better) Light
John Pomeroy, Drake University
John will cover basic lighting design concepts that apply to most community theatre situations: quick review of lighting instruments, working with a limited fixture inventory, elements of theatre lighting design, evaluating your space, creating and implementing a “house hang,” adding specials, and creative use of versatile LEDs. John is the department chair, associate professor of theatre, and technical director for the Theatre Arts School of Fine Arts at Drake.
Pep and Circumstance
Katy Slaven, Atkins, IA
Motion maven Katy Slaven will get your blood pumping with ideas to inject pep and vitality into your community theater activities. Warmups, games, icebreakers, improv, and other stuff you can use to liven up auditions, rehearsals or any theater group get together. Katy has a BA in Theatre Performance from UNI and an MFA in Acting from Florida Atlantic University. She teaches theatre, leads workshops and master classes, and fills roles as actor, director, and dialect coach. Katy is currently lives in Atkins, IA with her fiancé and their son.
Final Act Ensemble Radio Shows
Molly Ketchum and R.J. Lundgren
These ICTA members will bring information about this group of performers they are involved with at the Des Moines Playhouse. The group performs classic and original radio plays from the “Golden Days of Radio” for various audiences. Molly and RJ are retirees who also enjoy Steampunk activities.

UTOPIA: The Iowa Musical Revue

Utopia celebrates and pokes a little fun at the unique people, places, and traditions of the great state of Iowa! It was created by Iowa playwright Robert John Ford, who also wrote Caucus! The Musical and Six-on-Six: The Musical. It includes sketches and parody songs about RAGBRAI, the Cy-Hawk football game, bean walking, 4-H, and the Iowa weather. It will bring a smile to your heartland!
Your registration fee includes a ticket to the show. Please indicate on your registration form which show you plan to attend so we can reserve a seat for you.

There will be time to visit with and learn from community theatre members from across the state. Bring a tri-fold display board or other materials to tell us the story about your theatre.
